Get Started with Ledger — Ledger.com/start

Welcome to your first step in securing your crypto. This guide will help you set up your Ledger device using the official Ledger onboarding process, commonly referred to as Ledger.com/start. Whether you’re using a Ledger Nano S Plus or Nano X, the setup steps are simple, secure, and essential.

Why Choose Ledger?

Ledger hardware wallets offer top-tier security for your digital assets. Unlike online wallets or exchanges, Ledger stores your private keys offline. This means you're protected from hackers, phishing attacks, and malware that can compromise online or software wallets.

Ledger supports thousands of crypto assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and many ERC-20 tokens. It's trusted by millions of users around the world.

Step 1: Unbox Your Ledger Device

When you receive your Ledger wallet, make sure the box is sealed and untampered. Inside, you’ll find:

If anything looks unusual, do not proceed. Contact official Ledger support for verification.

Step 2: Go to Ledger.com/start

Ledger.com/start is the official place to begin the setup process. From there, you’ll download Ledger Live — the desktop and mobile application that connects to your device. Ledger Live is required to initialize the wallet, manage your crypto, and install apps for each blockchain you wish to use.

Only use the official onboarding site to avoid fake or scam websites that can compromise your funds.

Step 3: Install Ledger Live

Install the Ledger Live app on your computer or mobile device. Once installed, open the app and select “Get Started.” Follow the on-screen prompts to identify your device and begin setup.

You will be asked to choose whether you want to set up a new device or restore an existing one using a recovery phrase.

Step 4: Set Up and Secure Your Wallet

If you’re setting up a new wallet, your Ledger device will generate a 24-word recovery phrase. This phrase is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost or damaged.

You will also set a PIN code on the device. Choose a PIN that’s easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess.

Step 5: Add Crypto Accounts

After setting up your device, you can start adding accounts for the cryptocurrencies you own. In Ledger Live:

Once verified, you can receive, send, and manage your assets securely from Ledger Live.

Step 6: Stay Secure

Security doesn’t stop after setup. Here are essential practices to keep your Ledger wallet safe:

Ledger will never ask for your recovery phrase. Anyone who does is attempting a scam.

Step 7: Back Up and Store Safely

Make at least one backup copy of your recovery phrase and store it in a separate secure location. Some users prefer using a fireproof safe or a steel recovery phrase storage device for added durability.

Your crypto security is only as strong as your recovery phrase protection.
